As the term draws to an end, things are as hectic as ever. Everyone is trying to end the term on a strong and positive note. Sports wrap up the season with team parties, games and/or EIL and LCA tournaments. Theatre produces their plays and clears the stage. Teachers give out last minute projects and tests to determe our final grade for the term. But most importantly, we get ready to start off the second term of the year.
Winter term seems to be the center of all things fun for Beaver Country Day School. It means that all students are exactly one-third into the year. For freshmen, it means we have completed one third of the first year of our High School career. For seniors, it means they only have two more to go. Then, they are off on their journey to college. The year seems to be going by fast but I have noticed that teachers are giving us more assignments to make up our grade. Projects and tests have been handed out all week. The pressure is on at this point and we are all struggling to survive these last couple of days. The winter term is also all about the extra-curricular and school events. Everyone is getting excited for the new afternoon activities Beaver is introducing to us. There are activities such as the new Girls’ Ice Hockey program. Ice Hockey is the latest after school program they have provided to us and surprisingly many girls have signed up for it! To reinforce that statement, practices start at 5:45am and they have enough girls to make up a full team. It seems to me that it is going to be a very popular sport. Also, winter carnival is soon to come and we are excited for hot chocolate and s’mores. That is always my favorite part of the school year! We all get to know each other and bond by the fire.
Since freshmen are new to the high-school environment, I am sure we are all ready to start all over again and use our new knowledge from experience and apply it to the second term to make our high-school experience be a great one! “I am so excited for the winter term. Basketball will start, snow will be out, there will be ice-skating, and we can stay inside while being cozy and reading a good book,” said a new freshman at Beaver, Nia McQueenie class of ‘15. To sum it all up, winter term is always the talk of the year. I am sure we are all ecstatic to finish this first term and move on up the the next one!
