    Marcia's Fashion Blog: Leather

    Marcia Zimmerman '15

Leather is not just for jackets anymore. It is popping up everywhere from accessories, belts, boots, pants, and even shirts! On most days at Beaver, one cannot walk down the hall without seeing someone in the unofficial winter uniform of a sweater, black leggings, and knee high boots.

Wearing one item all leather, like pants or a shirt, can seem daunting and even uncomfortable! I believe that this can be solved by diluting a regular outfit with leather accents. An exciting touch to a comfy sweater is leather patches over the elbows. One can also channel their inner horseback rider with pants or leggings that have leather sewn into the inner pant leg.

Leather does not have to be exclusively for clothes. Accessories can throw a mix of textures into an outfit. A braided leather bracelet paired with other colorful jewelery can be fun!  For a more classic approach and a way to tell the time, try a thin brown leather watch.

Last but not least: boots. Versatile and chic, leather boots are a fall/winter essential. Most come in a black or brown hue. Knee high boots are the most common among Beaver students, but ankle or peter pan (ankle-mid length) boots are also a quality option. They work best when paired, like I mentioned before, with leggings and a sweater or t-shirt, but can also be worn with skirts and (for ankle boots) flare jeans. This is a simple trend to play with and, when done right, it look amazing!
