    Atlantis

     Sam Polk '13

The tropical island Nassau is full of many great attractions. Places such as the Fish Fry offer tourists some of the best fish in the Caribbean and the beaches are replete with celebrities’ beach-side vacation homes. However, most people who visit Nassau visit it to go to Atlantis, the massive beach-side resort in Paradise Island.

The 141 acre water park boasts countless rides which range from a small slide that ends in a kiddie pool to a terrifying, six-second, 121-foot descent into pitch black. The Jungle slide, one of the tamer rides, is not only relaxing, but it also shows off a beautiful view of Paradise Island. The Surge is a ride that welcomes a slide-goer with a twenty-foot drop at the beginning. After an exhilarating ride on the 121 foot Power Tower, you will find yourself in a beautiful set of rapids that lead to the mile-long lazy river. The scariest, and most famous, slide in Atlantis is the Leap of Faith. This intimidating masterpiece offers thrill-seekers a sixty foot vertical drop from the top of the Mayan Temple. This leads through a tunnel under a shark-filled lagoon at high speeds and finally ends in a massive pool. Needless to say, there is a place in Atlantis for every bon vivant.

    Glow in the Dark Cats

    Nick Laycox '12

Three months ago a scientific miracle occurred: researchers made glow in the dark kittens. Now before writing this off as the next trending Internet hoax, consider the fact the study was done by a world renowned medical clinic, the Mayo Clinic. Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV) causes AIDS in cats as the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) does in humans; by depleting the body’s infection fighting T cells. T cells are a particular kind of blood cell necessary to life. As FIV or HIV runs its course T cells become infected and useless. These aren’t any ordinary glow in the dark cats. These glow in the dark cats have a gene that produces proteins that fight off the FIV infection. The proteins can be referred to as restriction factors. The natural restriction factors found in cats and humans aren’t powerful enough to fight the FIV or HIV infection. By introducing the new powerful restriction factors the cats are able to fight off a FIV infection.

    Greece Bailout

    Quinn Sheridan '13

Greece’s fiscal crisis is perhaps the most daunting task that Europe has faced since the devastation of World War II. The European union, an economic and political union of 27 nations in Europe, is reacting to the depreciation of their currency and the economic turmoil afflicting their member states. The European Union in a quick succession of last minute conferences is deciding how to bail out Greece among other economically distressed European states, such as  Portugal, Italy and Spain.
